Accom­mo­dat­ing History

The his­toric Hol­brooke Hotel has always been the ideal base from which to explore the fas­ci­nat­ing his­tory of the Gold Coun­try, shop for antiques and unique gifts, or par­tic­i­pate in the many out­door recre­ational activ­i­ties in the area. Estab­lished in 1851 to cater to the needs of Gold Rush pio­neers, the Hol­brooke con­tin­ues to offer fine accom­mo­da­tions, din­ing, bev­er­ages, and enter­tain­ment to trav­el­ers and local residents.

Guest books, pre­served and dis­played in the hotel today, include the sig­na­tures of Pres­i­dents Ulysses S. Grant, Ben­jamin Har­ri­son, James A. Garfield and Grover Cleve­land. Other famous guests include writ­ers Mark Twain and Bret Harte, heavy­weight cham­pion box­ers Jim Cor­bett and Bob Fitzsim­mons, the infa­mous high­way man, Black Bart, and enter­tain­ers Lola Mon­tez, Lotta Crab­tree and Emma Nevada.
